Thank you for letting me be part of this awesome series: A-Z of Sensory Play. And here is…C for Cloud dough!
Have you ever made cloud dough? Sometimes it is called moon sand. It is super soft, and the original recipe only calls for 2 ingredients!
You basically need a flour-type of ingredient, together with an oil-type of ingredient. I always use cake flour with sunflower oil, to make it edible. (Not that it tastes nice, but I have kids that like to taste everything!)
The original recipe calls for cake flour with baby oil. I used a 2.5 kg bag of flour, and then we added the oil little bit at a time, mixing it every time until we had the right consistency. The ratio should be 1: 8, thus for 2.5 kg of flour, you'll need 312.5ml of oil, if I'm right.
My two year old loved to help with the mixing process, part of the lovely, but messy play. Messy play has so many benefits, not to mention the fun!
We added some spoons, silicone heart baking cups, and candles. He had fun scooping, and pressing out the hearts. Hiding the candles in the dough was sure fun too!
After my boy had his birthday in January, he likes to play pretend party. So, it was not long that these became “cakes”, and the candle blown, and “Happy Birthday” sung!
One could color the dough to make a certain color too, perfect for small world play.
